Puppy Vaccination Booster Series

As the Days get longer and the weather warms up, puppy litters are being born . Are you ready for your new puppy?

The first step to a healthy puppy is vaccination.

Companion Vac Solo Jec 5 is the first inoculation your puppy receives. It should be given 3 weeks before the puppy leaves the mother at 6 weeks old to 8 weeks old, then again at 9-11 weeks (at weaning). This will help your puppy stay healthy through the stressful period of weaning and separation from the mother and litter mates.
Solo-Jec® 5 Plus vaccine is a combination of immunogenic, attenuated strains of

  • Canine Distemper
  • Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (CAV-2)
  • Canine Parainfluenza
  • Canine Parvovirus Type 2b, propagated in cell line tissue cultures. The CAV-2 fraction cross-protects against respiratory infection caused by infectious canine hepatitis (CAV-1)

You can purchase single dose syringes of Companion Vac Solo jec 5 plus from Hunt & Behrens.

Vaccination does not stop there though. In the following three week intervals it is important to continue the vaccinations in weeks 12-14 and 15-17. Many Veterinarians Recommend Companion vac SoloJect 7 Plus as the vaccine for these inoculations.

Solo-Jec-7®Plus vaccine is a combination of immunogenic, attenuated strains of:

  • Canine Distemper
  • Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (CAV-2)
  • Canine Parainfluenza
  • Canine Parvovirus Type 2b, propagated in cell line tissue cultures.
  • The diluent is Canine Parvovirus Vaccine-Leptospira Canicola-Icterohaemorrhagiae Bacterin. The CAV-2 fraction cross-protects against respiratory infection caused by infectious canine hepatitis (CAV-1).

The addition of two strains of Leptospira canicola, and L. icterohaemorrhagiae is what makes this vaccine a “7”. It is also sold in single dose packaging.  This will now be your Annual Booster for your puppy.

*Suggestion*  Pick one day a year when you give annual vaccine boosters to all your companion animals.  Make is a memorable date and an annual tradition.  Some people chose a holiday and put it on the calendar as a reminder.  Then all your animals are included and no one gets left out!
